Clan History

As most of us know, there is very little written history about Buganda. The historians that have so far written about Buganda's past have heavily depended upon what has been passed on to them by there fore fathers.

This is very true with the Ntalaganya. Most of what is known about the Ntalaganya clan has been passed on by our elders who of course got such information from their fore fathers. The information that I have about the Ntalaganya clan was passed on to me by the following people;

my father, the late Yoana Domasko Mubiru, my grandfather the late Andereya Ssekikubbo both from Buwanguzi Ggomba.The late Anselini Musoke Kayizzi of Kikoko Gomba, and the late Paskaali Jjugumbya Lufananenkuba

In a small hand written book that never got published, Anselini Musoke Kayizzi and Paskaali Lufananenkuba speak of the Ntalaganya clan as one the few clans that were there before the reign of Kintu.

I know many historians will disagree with this, given the hidden history that many Baganda would not endure to remember. According to this small book written in 1919, our ancestral home is Kiwawu (Busujju).

The authors speak of the great warrior Balamaga-Wasswa who fought and defeated Ssenkayi a Munyoro chief in Ggomba. This was during the reign of King Kateregga. After chasing away the Banyoro from Ggomba, King Kateregga made Balamaga-Wasswa the first Kitunzi of Ggomba. From this time on, the Ntalaganya people settled extensively in Ggomba.

Musoke and Lufananenkuba, in this small book stress that we are the descendants of King Wadda, said to have been the first King of Buganda (before Kintu). Some people believe that Buganda had kings before Kintu and King Wadda is said to have been the first king of Buganda.

There are said to have been nine kings after Wadda namely: Bukulu I, Bukulu II, Bbanga, Musisi, Ssemandamuntu, Nsingere, Buganda, Lubaalewattu and Bemba. All these kings are said to have been of the Ntalaganya clan.
