Buganda Kingdom
Buganda Kingdom is located in the East African country of Uganda. The kingdom has been in existence since the 13th century (1300 AD).
The first king of Buganda was Kato Kintu and the current king (Kabaka) is Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II who ascended the throne in 1993. He is the 36th king of Buganda.
The Kingdom has a rich culture. It is made up of more than 50 clans. The heads of the clans are known as the Abataka. Each Muganda belongs to a clan and takes up the father’s clan.
It is only the Kabaka who takes after his mother’s clan rather than the royal clan. Other princes and princesses belong to the royal clan, Abalangira.
