Buganda Kingdom
Buganda Kingdom is located in the East African country of Uganda and has been in existence since the 13th century (1300 AD).
The first king of Buganda was Kato Kintu, and the current king (Kabaka) is Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, who ascended the throne in 1993. He is the 36th king of Buganda.
The kingdom has a rich culture and is made up of more than 50 clans. The heads of these clans are known as the Abataka. Every Muganda belongs to a clan, which is passed down from the father.
However, it is only the Kabaka who belongs to his mother’s clan rather than the royal clan. Other princes and princesses belong to the royal clan, Abalangira.
